Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the son of the emperor of Austria, hence his title, Archduke. Both him and his wife were shot dead in parade by Gavrilo Princip. Ferdinand believed that Serbians such as Princip, were "pigs," "thieves," and "murderers." Which put Austria in a bad political situation.
Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were shot dead by Gavrilo Princip near the Latin Bridge, in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914.
